Osokwe N'Namdi Street Obituary (1975 - 2019)

Osokwe N'namdi Street, born July 3, 1975 in Takoma Park, Maryland, was the second son of Oliver B. and Polly R. Street. He graduated from Lyndon Baines Johnson Science Academy in 1993. He briefly attended Prairie View A & M University and Texas A & M University at College Station. He was baptized and joined Ebenezer Third Baptist Church in March of 1987 when he was 12 years old, under the pastorage of Dr. Marvin C. Griffin. He participated in Sunday School, Discipleship Training and competed in Austin Baptist Association Bible Drill as well as State Bible Drill and Speakers Tournament. Osokwe was a sports enthusiast and played baseball for LBJ. He also played basketball during the summers while in high school and would cut his friends hair and would even cut his own hair. His favorite sports teams were Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs and The University of Texas at Austin. He attended Roffler Barber School and while there mentored other students. After becoming a licensed barber, he worked at Ideal Barber Shop under the tutelage of Mr. Ray Galloway. His talents as a barber brought him contacts and customers from all social, political and economic circles. Many of his friends sought his talents as a barber. He owned a food trailer business and catering service named "Sok It 2 Me Backyard BBQ" serving delicious barbecue, wings and fried fish on weekends and during special events. Osokwe was involved in community development of East Austin and a Board member of The Anderson Development Corporation. He also used his talents to serve the community. He provided free haircuts at Givens Recreation Center during the Back-To-School events held each year. As a member of "The Tree Boys", a group of friends devoted to fatherhood, he served meals to the community each Father's Day. As a single parent, he was devoted to the rearing of his 10-year old daughter Kirstin Ce'mor Street. In addition to his daughter Kirstin, he is survived by his parents Oliver and Polly; grandmother, Maery Lou Street; two brothers, Salim (Jenny) and Oliver "Trey", III and niece Harper Rayne Street. In addition, he leaves to mourn a host of cousins, relatives and friends. .
