Milrose (Hale) Shaw Obituary (1934 - 2021)

Please read information posted here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/funeral-guidance.html THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING On Friday, June 29, 1934, a beautiful butterfly emerged from her cocoon and touched down on the lives of Homer and Odessa Houston Hale in Caldwell County, Texas. Despite the passing of her mother and twin brother at birth she grew to be a model child, adoring teen, wife, mother and faithful friend. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age. Milrose shared this hope in Christ by leading her children, and others to the Way. She was a faithful member of the Church of the New Testament until her passing. Regardless of her childhood circumstances Milrose was always obedient to her parents and respectful to others. As a child she and her siblings were required to assist with the household finances. The family picked cotton, chopped cane, and picked peanuts. While others did her least favorite job of pulling corn, she drove the mule drawn wagon to catch the corn. She attended L.C. Anderson High School and night school. Her dream was to be a cosmetologist. Instead she chose a career which involved working as a cook with the State School for the Deaf, Austin State School, Buda Elementary, and a number of assisted living facilities. Rose was a strikingly beautiful, little country girl, with pure skin and milk white teeth. Oliver could often be heard saying "she weighed 90 pounds wet". She loved being outdoors exploring nature, chasing butterflies, digging in the dirt, and playing with baby rabbits found in the fields. Rose enjoyed daily walks through her neighborhood and sitting on her porch. From her childhood into her early adult years she enjoyed playing baseball. She was known to have a serious right arm. This arm was known to seriously throw a baseball and sometimes small kitchen utensils and bars of soap to get your attention. The name Rose exemplified her. She had a green thumb and anything she planted would bloom. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, quilting, cooking, raising chickens and ducks, exploring her neighborhood, and supporting her children in their various activities from sports to academics, to pageants, history events, parades, horseback riding, graduations and church functions. Wherever she was invited she made a way to attend. She hasn't driven (legally) since 1989, but it wasn't a surprise to look out and see her smiling face. She had a thirst for knowledge. She was known to religiously read her Bible, the Almanac, cookbooks, DIY articles, self-help and healthy living guides. She loved to teach and consult with other gardeners on the latest how-to growing tips. She was predictable in that you could always find her watching COPS, Judge Judy, Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, The Haves and the Have Nots and/or PBS Central Texas Gardener. At 18, she wed Samuel Alexander and to this union two children were born. December 9, 1958 she married her childhood sweetheart Oliver Shaw. The love birds blended their family and through time added six additional children who she equally loved in her own unique way. With deep commitment, love and admiration she proudly spoke of being a mother in the lives of several nieces and nephews. Along the way she added additional chicks to her coop through her community, church services and the friends of her children. She had a spirit and a mission to serve God through giving. No one ever left her home hungry or without sufficient shoes and/or clothing, and a few extra coins in their pocket. She often said God provided for her so she could provide for others. She gave unselfishly. She enjoyed playing games with friends and family. She was champion at Skippo, and checkers. She wanted to teach everyone to play Skippo, so she could beat you. Many nights she and her girlfriends Betty, Tommie and others would play late into the evening. It was later discovered that she was an undercover dominoes player. A talent she acquired from her attendance at the St. Johns Community Center senior citizen's dayhab. She held a lot of talents up her sleeves. More than we will ever know. Her cooking will forever be raved about. She could make a leather shoe taste good. Her specialties were red beans, meatloaf, broccoli/chicken casserole, turkey and dressing, biscuits, rolls, greens, light bread, tea cakes, peanut butter cookies, pecan, sweet potato and lemon meringue pies. Folks traveled for miles to get a dish of her peach cobbler. Lots of peaches, thick crust and juice. No ice cream required. Milrose is preceded in death by her husband Oliver Shaw; her parents Homer, Odessa and Regaina; sons, Perry Davidson, Robert Anthony Shaw and Roger Lenard Shaw; brother Robert Homer Hale; sisters Ola Alexander, Shirley Sanders and Kerry Sue Hale. She leaves to mourn her loving children, son, Samuel Alexander Jr., daughters Odessa Alexander Hogan Sorrells, Creola Shaw Burns (Jim), Tina Carol Shaw, Frances Eguzo (Celestine), Margie Ray; sisters Louise Hale Goodwin, and Jeanie Jackson (Nathaniel); brothers James Hale (Marie) and Willie Ray Hale (Natalie). 27 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Special adopted children, Chesteen Shaw, Windy Shaw, Angie Shaw, Betty Shaw, Patrick Shaw and Steve Davis.
