Maud Esther Patton Obituary (2019)

Maud Esther Kelley was born October 23, 1924 in Manor Texas to Leroy Kelley Sr. and Rowena Kelley. She attended Austin Independent school district and professed Christ at an early age. She united with New Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of her father the late Reverend Leroy Kelley Sr, later she would join St. Stephens Baptist church under the leadership of the late Reverend B.F. Palmer. On October 12, 1942 she married the love of her life the late Dr. Alvin Milton Patton and celebrated over 57 years of matrimony. To this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers; Leroy Kelley Jr, Leslie Kelley, George Kelley, three sisters; Willie Mae Kelley, Jeanette Kelley, and Etta Mae Kelley and one grandson Tommy James Robinson Jr. Maud was known as a prayer warrior throughout the city. She enjoyed traveling, shopping and being a homemaker. She accompanied her husband to Black's Memorial Baptist Church were he was called to Pastor for over 46 years. Maud would serve as first lady, Sunday school teacher, Women's Conference president, and choir member. She was a faithful missionary and was known to share the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout her neighborhood by creating her own ministry tracks. Maud became a walking, living "Word of Encouragement ". From 1st Sunday speeches to conversations in the street, she has encouraged many, both family and friends with her trademark statement "Just keep on keeping on" She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Milton Patton of Austin Texas, Gloria McCorbin of Austin Texas, Lester E. Patton (Patricia) of Austin Texas, and Mae Patton of Austin Texas; sixteen grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
