Johnnie Mae Thompson Obituary (1923 - 2021)

Johnnie Mae was the fourth child born to George and Relasie Parks on March 16, 1923 in Manor, Texas. Johnnie Mae met and married Willie (Fritz) Thompson and to this union 4 children were born. Erma Jean, Mary Alice, George and John Allen. She was a long-time and active member of Ulit Avenue Baptist Church where she served on the Senior Usher Board, Senior Choir, Mission I and participated in Mission I on the District and National levels. Johnnie Mae loved traveling to the National Baptist Convention with her nieces. Johnnie Mae was a member of the Eastern Stars [OES]. She was an avid fisher woman; she enjoyed fishing in lakes and open water in Corpus Christi with her friend Mary Carter. She was an excellent cook. She was known for her soul food meals and everyone benefited from her cakes and cookies. Her specialties were Earthquake cakes, Seven-Up pound cakes and chocolate chip cookies. The grandchildren fought over the chocolate chip cookies. She was also a hairdresser and her Saturdays were filled with fixing hair for family members and friends. Johnnie Mae departed this life on April 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Mattie Parks, Erma Jane Scott, Mable Harris, Charlie Parks, and Bertha Hill, daughter Mary Alice Hardeman and great grandson Damontriae Harris. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Erma Jean Harris and two sons George Thompson and John (Helen) Thompson, son-in-law Rev. A.L. Hardeman, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
