Jimmie Lee Jones “Coach Jones” · March 11, 1945

With a heart full of love, courage and unwavering generosity, we celebrate the life of Jimmie Lee Jones, known fondly by many as Coach Jones. Born on March 11, 1945, in Greenville, Alabama, Jimmie devoted his life to uplifting and inspiring others, both in his personal life and throughout his esteemed career in education. As a retired coach and teacher from LBJ High School in Austin, Texas, Jimmie’s resilience and loyalty touched countless lives, molding young minds and hearts with his wisdom and support.

Jimmie’s life was a living testament to one of his favorite Bible verses, Proverbs 27:17 – “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” True to these words, he was an influential figure whose presence brought out the best in others. A loyal husband, a supportive father, a generous grand- and great-grandfather, and a loving brother, Jimmie’s knack for fixing things extended beyond objects to mending hearts and lifting spirits. He cherished meeting new people, drawing immense joy from helping others, and served his community passionately through various roles in his church. Coaching wasn’t a job for him, it was a calling. From Del Valle, Pierce, to LBJ, he gave every team his whole heart.

Jimmie is survived by his loving wife, Lillie Jones; his daughters Sharon Roper, Annette Roper, Joycelyn Scott (Tony Scott) , and Stephanie Jones; his sisters Eloise Cooper (Eddie Cooper) and Vivian Wright (Willie Wright); his brother Leon Jones (Sheryl Jones); his grandchildren Kendal Roper, Xavia Marsh, Alexandria Roper, Alaysha Roper, Gabriel Jones, and Nova Roper, and his great-grandchildren Elias Roper and Nehemiah Roper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Geraldine Jones.

We invite all who knew and loved Jimmie to join us in honoring his unique life. In memory of our beloved Coach Jones, we encourage everyone to share their favorite photos, stories, and memories on his memorial page. To see his life through the eyes of those who loved him is to keep his spirit alive in our hearts. Let us remember Jimmie not just for the life he lived, but for the lives he touched with his courage, generosity, loyalty, and unwavering support.
