Frankie A. Carter Obituary (1926 - 2019)

Frankie A. Carter, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie W. Roland, began her service and walk with the Lord at age eleven. In her early years, she was taught the importance of commitment and a willingness to serve God and fellowman. In 1943, she moved to Austin and united with the Corinth Baptist Church. She served faithfully at Corinth as an usher, building fund secretary, and was the first Junior Mission president. In 1957, she became a part of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church family and served as an usher, nurse-aide, Sunday School teacher, vice president of Junior Mission, president of Senior Mission, church clerk, and as president of the Ushers and Nurses auxiliary. She engaged in other ministries at Mt. Zion as well. Ushering evoked a special calling which she was willing to share with others. In July 1979, she was elected president of the St. John District Ushers and Nurses, an auxiliary to the St. John Regular Baptist Association. Embracing the ideas left by her predecessors, she embarked on a plan of work that included increasing the number of ushers within the St. John District, and fostering Christian teaching through Bible study. She worked tirelessly to ensure that adult and youth ushers were adequately trained by implementing demonstration workshops, giving presentations, and conducting one-on-one meetings with various church groups throughout the city. Other notable areas of service within the St. John District include: - Recording Secretary for the St. John District Ushers Auxiliary - Financial Secretary for the Sunday School and Training Union Congress - Advisor for Austin Area Ushers and Nurses - Member of the Fifth Sunday Executive Board Financial Committee - Member of the Austin and Elgin Sub-District Ministers' Wives - Member/Supporter of Mission I In February 1988, she was elected as president of the National Baptist Convention of America, Ushers Auxiliary, where she served for 16 years. She has dedicated a lifetime of service to the field of ushering. Frankie leaves to lovingly cherish her memory: two children; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister; nieces and nephews; and a host of relatives, friends, and ushers all over the United States.
