Dwayne Edward Thompson Obituary (1963 - 2024)

Dwayne Edward Thompson was born to Lester Thompson and Vera Winn on April 9, 1963 in Austin, Texas. As a young child, he and his family moved to California, where he attended public school, graduating from Sunnyvale High School. He was an exceptional student who throughout his education shared his knowledge as a school tutor to neighboring youth while residing in California. Dwayne loved writing and even wrote a children's book for his family to read and enjoy. He was employed at LifeScan, a Johnson & Johnson company located in Milpitas, California. After relocating to Texas, he was then employed at Sitel where he specialized in quality assurance for General Motors. It was in California where he met Tangra Blocker and from this union they were blessed with his daughter Starneisha. He would later meet Viola McKinley who would join him in holy matrimony, and from this union he would be blessed with his daughter Jannae. Together Dwayne & Viola would later welcome their youngest daughter, Kayla. Dwayne alongside his wife Viola were baptized as Jehovah's Witnesses, committing to their study of the word of Christ, and attendance at The Kingdom Hall. While life's challenges presented its hardships through various trials and tribulations, Dwayne's devotion to being a "Girl Dad" to his daughters was a life-long commitment that he took on until the very end. Being a Girl Dad was one of his greatest rewards but being "Caw-Paw" brought on a whole new meaning. He was an incredible father, and the best Caw-Paw who believed that his grandchildren could have whatever they wanted... There was no limit to the sugary treats from him! Dwayne reaffirmed his acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in the presence of his daughter Kayla and Chaplin Emily on January 9, 2024... "To God Be The Glory!" Dwayne Thompson entered his eternal rest peacefully on January 31, 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife Viola Thompson, father Lester Thompson-Wilson (Joyce), mother, Vera Winn, and grandparents. He is survived by his daughters, Starneisha Blocker of Claxton, Georgia, Jannae Harris of Hayward, California, Kayla Taylor (Randall) of Del Valle, Texas, grandchildren: Marquesha Stanley of Claxton, Georgia, Damani Sistena, Jaden Harris, and Bruce Thomas of Hayward, California, Grace Chatman and D'Arron Taylor of Del Valle, Texas, sister, Denita Thompson-Diggs (Jerry) of Austin, Texas, brother Paul Wilson of San Francisco, California, niece Camille Wilson of Edmonton Alberta, Canada, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of loved ones. In honor of our beloved Dwayne, we're celebrating his life with a luncheon (Dallas Cowboy attire) on April 6, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 2938 E. 13th St. Austin, Texas 78702, at the Family Life Center.
