Charles Mitchell Harris "Possum" Obituary (1949 - 2023)

On January 6, 1949 in Bastrop County a beautiful baby boy was born to Mitchell and Effie Harris. His parents were well rooted in the community as self made entrepreneurs. Charles professed Christ at an early age at David Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor James E.Obey Sr. He attended Sims Elementary, Kealing Junior High and L.C.Anderson High School. During his young journey he was known for his gift of Artistry and Creations. His talented ability to create and bring portraits and drawings to life through his GOD given talent. He also was known for his ability to create and make board games for him, his family and friends to play in the neighborhood, the story was told he made these games better than Parker Brothers. At the tender age of 18, he was drafted into the Army, at this time he married Phyllis Morris on February 16, 1968 and to this marriage a son was born Charles Carnell Harris. As a junior enlisted recruit he received one of the highest ranks as a E-4 Specialist. He also achieved two medals while enlisted. He also fought in the Vietnam War and traveled the world and met many people along the way. His favorite football team was the Dallas Cowboys. He is preceded in death by his parents Mitchell Harris Jr., Effie Marie Harris, sister Charlotte Ann Harris, brother Bennie Lee. He leaves to cherish his memory his son Charles Carnell Harris, two sisters Julia Williams, Ethel Harris, three brothers Raydel Harris (Faye), Royie Lee Harris, Donell Harris Sr., two special aunts Clara Jackson, Marie Melton, his special companion Myrtlene Dow along with a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
