Annie Mae (White) Jones was born on June 29, 1925, in Austin, Texas, to Walter and Mary (Bonner) White. She was the youngest of four children. She attended Austin Public Schools and graduated from the historic Old L. C. Anderson High School.
At an early age, Annie Mae accepted Christ and was baptized at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2314 Rosewood Avenue in Austin, Texas, in July 1934. She later reaffirmed her faith on August 25, 1957, and faithfully served the Lord as a missionary and nurse for many years. In her later seasons of life, she fellowshipped with her daughter at The Way, The Truth, and The Life Church under Pastor James Hernandez, Logos Baptist Church under Pastor Willie E. Kline Sr, as well as Bethel Baptist Church under Pastor Gene Strother. Despite attending other churches as her health permitted, Sister Jones remained a devoted member of St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church until she entered eternal rest.
Sister Jones was a devoted mother, sister, daughter, and friend. She dedicated her professional life to serving others as a registered nurse and retired from Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. Throughout her career, she served her community with compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment. To her family and friends, she was admired for her strength, resilience, and selflessness. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, leaving a legacy of care and love that continues to resonate through her children, grandchildren, and generations beyond.
Sister Jones was the proud mother of four children. From her first union with Joe Lee Jones, Sr., she welcomed Jacque Chardonnay, Joe Lee Jones, Jr. (Cheryl), Morris Jones, and Sheryl Ann (Jones) Robinson (Arthur). From her second union with Buster Eugene Smith, Sr., she was blessed with Buster Eugene Smith, Jr. (Alverta).
Sister Jones was preceded in death by her parents, both spouses, siblings and her three sons.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Sheryl Ann (Jones) Robinson; her nephew, William White; and her grandchildren: Audrey (Robinson) White (Willie), Ammina Jones, Lynita Robinson, Arthur Robinson, Maelin Damm, “Charo,” Jennifer Robinson, Yulise Jones-Galloway (Lauriel), Deidre Smith, and Buster Smith III (Megan).
